Childlike Curiosity - Amanda Broadus

I never thought I would be here. I never imagined my first international trip would be one of sacrifice, service, and sharing the Gospel. But God has plans for us that we can never understand until He reveals them to us.

I am honored to have been chosen for this Kingdom work and blessed, both by the team I traveled with, and those we met when we arrived to Ecuador. Every individual I encountered met me with compassion, grace, and so much love for a foreign stranger. What impressed me most was the compassion and excitement of the youth in Samborondón, Ecuador. Jesus shines His light so brightly through them that they are encouraging their parents, grandparents, cousins, and more to commit their lives to Christ. It’s almost unfathomable until you witness it. But that speaks to how impressionable and influential our youthful minds are.

What is childlike curiosity in Christ?

This question was posed on one of our first days in Ecuador, and it’s one I’ve pondered each day as we’ve visited churches, schools, and homes in the community. I believe the curiosity begins when we see God’s Word manifest in our personal lives. Have you ever read a Scripture you’re familiar with, but it suddenly resonates in a new way? That is childlike curiosity. Have you ever experienced something in your life and immediately related it to a biblical character's experience? That is childlike curiosity. Because it opens our hearts to ponder what God is telling us and how He is moving in our lives; if only we slow down to listen.

Public speaking is one of my strengths. I’ve always known I will speak in front of rooms filled with people, but I never knew what I would be talking about. I imagined it would be something career-related, but I now see it’s God-related.

During our Sunday service at Iglesia de Cristo Iberoamericana Samboradon, I had the privilege of sharing my testimony with the congregation and show them how Jesus works everything out for your good and His glory. Sharing a testimony is always powerful, but its impact is a double portion outside of your home country where people don’t understand you (literally) and don’t know your lifestyle, but there are still many similarities in our walk with Christ and our trials in life.

Words can’t express my gratitude in experiencing this trip. And I look forward to the changes God will bring to my life afterwards.
