BLOG #3: Skye Ho

Cameron’s previous post spoke about the many home visits we made to families in nearby villages. Many, but not all, were members of the church. I was stunned that about half of them had a personal testimony of how God had brought about a supernatural healing in their lives. The healings were so numerous that I cannot recall them all! A boy that’s seizure-free for two years, a man healed of diverticulitis without surgery, multiple construction-related injuries that miraculously healed. God continues to make Himself known among His people with healings similar to those in the book of Acts.

On Thursday we headed out to another village, as we had done a couple times this week, for a pop-up health clinic. These clinics are only possible through the donations associated with our mission team’s visit to the area. Through the donations to support those coming to Mexico, a portion is set aside to cover the cost of medications, gas, and more. This week over 200 people received healthcare as a result of the clinics and visits.

I wanted to share a little about how WWHO puts on their clinics.  First, the doctors collaborate on which small villages are in need of support. They often don’t know anyone in the area, but decide on a location and trust God to provide. That is the key statement that drives many of their decisions - God will provide.

We drive 20-60 minutes to a village, then search for a person of peace to help identify a location where the clinic can be staged; it’s often a church or park or school. When they have a location, we setup five stations with portable tables, chairs, and canopies: Registration, Evangelism, Triage/Vitals, Doctor’s area, and Pharmacy. The setup can take 20-30 minutes and we’re the only ones around - no visitors. When all is finished, we wait. Word gets around and visitors show up soon after. The spontaneous, unstructured style is different than what I am comfortable with, but it works every time. Although we may see 20-70 people in a village, the mission is to be there for the One that God is looking to support. The goal isn’t numbers; it’s to love on His children.

Our Thursday morning clinic was very successful. There were over 50 that we met with, but several visitors expressed a sincere desire to be a part of a Bible study group. This is the beginning of a movement where God can bless a village. I had a chance to be a part of the pharmacy, and each visitor goes home with something - whether vitamins or truly helpful medicine. It is striking to me that painful and chronic conditions can be quickly solved through the right medicine. Josh, an occupational therapist on our team, also helps people to get better by educating them on exercises and recommendations for improving function and wellness, not just medicine.

The doctors also don’t just provide medical care - they provide support to the hurting. Sometimes it’s therapy for a family dealing with a recent death or difficult family condition. The clinics provide healing of all sorts: physical, emotional and spiritual. There are many times the group will circle up around someone to pray for them. Based on what I’ve seen, prayer is a very effective means of physical healing.

After seven hours of running the clinic, the team was spent - but Dr. Sandy felt a calling to visit another village.  So we packed up and headed to the village next door. We arrived at 3pm and I didn’t know how much we could do but figured that God would provide. In two hours we served just a dozen visitors, but we found the One that God had called us to. A woman had been in severe pain in her bowels for days and had tried to go to a hospital but two(!) cars she tried weren’t functional. It’s the only time I saw us put someone on an IV drip and the change in her countenance within one hour was remarkable. It makes me emotional to consider that God brought an entire clinic to her village because she could not get her own transportation. He seeks the One over the 99.

God provides. There are people in so many areas that are hurting, and He provides for them.  He provides everything needed for spontaneous medical clinics. He provides international manpower. He provides the funds and expertise as resources to leverage. He provides direction and the location for where people need to be supported. And we all get a front row seat to witness His healing; to glorify Him for the works of Love He does.

When we first arrived there were many hugs when our team members reunited with friends they made from previous years. Thursday night I understood that affection so much more. We had a simple dinner together and we shared some of the testimonies we had witnessed this week. There is SO MUCH LOVE between all of us, regardless of our country of origin. There are many differences between us, but the bond of Christ brought all of us together in the most glorious way. One of the biggest blessings, for me, was to see the love that was shared between all of us, especially by the dear ladies of our group.

Thank you for supporting this group. We witnessed amazing events of healing and love and Glory. God is alive!
